My Hero Academia is a superhero anime series with a well-defined combat system centered around Quirks, or supernatural mutations and abilities found around the globe. In My Hero Academia's world almost everyone has a mutation, meaning the anime is packed with many dozens of diverse Quirks. Over time, the series has shown the true potential of powerful Quirks in the hands of well-trained heroes and villains, but it's not easy keeping track of them all.

Quirks of all kinds are found in each major faction or group in My Hero Academia, from the students at UA and the pro heroes to the members of the League of Villains or Paranormal Liberation Front. The strongest, best Quirks tend to stand out and are instantly recognizable, though fans might also want to brush up on the lesser-known Quirks and review exactly how they work.

What Quirks Do Class 1-A's Students Have?

Izuku Midoriya/Deku

My Hero Academia: A Guide to All the Best Quirks in the Series (6)

Protagonist Izuku Midoriya, who usually goes by his hero name Deku, was actually born Quirkless, which shaped him as a person. Being Quirkless meant Deku studied other people's Quirks instead, making him an armchair expert on the topic before he finally gained his own Quirk, One For All, from All Might himself. Deku spent much of My Hero Academia learning to control One For All's power without breaking his own body, and now, One For All's built-in Quirks from its previous users are awakening, making Deku even more powerful. It's because of this Quirk that Deku is destined to defeat Tomura Shigaraki when no one else can.

Ochaco Uraraka/Uravity

My Hero Academia: A Guide to All the Best Quirks in the Series (7)

Deku's good friend, Ochaco Uraraka, has a Quirk called Zero Gravity. She can touch any item or person with all her fingertips to nullify its gravity, causing items to float upward like helium balloons. Zero Gravity can be used in various ways, from restraining villains in midair to levitating heavy debris at a disaster site. At first, Ochaco had a weight limit of three tons with this Quirk, but she trained to raise that upper limit, minimize nausea caused by straining her Quirk, and use Zero Gravity on herself without getting sick to her stomach.

Katsuki Bakugo/Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight

My Hero Academia: A Guide to All the Best Quirks in the Series (8)

Deku's childhood friend turned rival, Katsuki Bakugo, inherited the perfect combination of Quirks from his parents. He sweats nitroglycerin naturally, and can ignite it with sparks on his palms to set off powerful explosions. Bakugo's Explosion Quirk is actually too strong for his body, so he uses support items, grenade-shaped bracers to safely redirect his explosive power and avoid straining his arms. Bakugo trained with his Explosion Quirk to perform a variety of destructive moves, including Howitzer Impact, AP Shot, Cluster, and Land Mine Blast.

Shoto Todoroki/Shoto

My Hero Academia: A Guide to All the Best Quirks in the Series (9)

✕ Remove Ads

Shoto Todoroki is the product of a Quirk marriage, where a man and woman marry so their children will inherit an ideal combination of Quirk genes from both parents. Bakugo was merely lucky to have a strong Quirk combo, but for Shoto, it was on purpose, making him a born tool of his father. Shoto's Half-Cold Half-Hot Quirk defined his entire life, making him resent his power, especially its fire half. Shoto's right half can rapidly freeze water or moisture in the air to generate vast amounts of ice, which makes him highly effective on offense and defense. He can even skate on that ice to boost his mobility. Shoto's fire half generates intense flames, just like Endeavor's, but with the benefit of his ice half preventing hyperthermia. More recently, Shoto started performing ice/fire combo moves, including Coldflame's Pale Blade.

Momo Yaoyorozu/Creati

My Hero Academia: A Guide to All the Best Quirks in the Series (10)

✕ Remove Ads

Momo Yaoyorozu's Quirk, Creation, is both extremely powerful and highly limiting. With Creation, Momo can generate any non-living substance or item from her bare skin, using her body's lipids as fuel. However, anyone using this Quirk must fully understand the composition and inner workings of an item created. It's fortunate that the genius Momo can easily study how complex items work in order to make them, or else her ability would be limited to much simpler things. Amusingly, Momo's training with her Creation Quirk was little more than mass-producing items while constantly eating to maintain her body's natural lipid fuel.

Fumikage Tokoyami/Tsukuyomi

My Hero Academia: A Guide to All the Best Quirks in the Series (11)

✕ Remove Ads

The raven-headed Fumikage Tokoyami has a highly unusual Quirk named Dark Shadow. Unlike most other Quirks, Dark Shadow can talk and has a mind of its own, making it more like a partner than a supernatural tool. Dark Shadow gets stronger in dim light or darkness, but might also go out of control and become a rampaging monster, so Fumikage had to train accordingly. Fumikage is the subject of many fan theories as well, suggesting that "bird head" is his real Quirk and that Dark Shadow was his twin's Quirk. If Fumikage absorbed his twin's Quirk in the womb, then Fumikage is two people in one, hence Dark Shadow's intelligence.

Eijiro Kirishima/Red Riot

My Hero Academia: A Guide to All the Best Quirks in the Series (12)

✕ Remove Ads

Eijiro Kirishima once thought his Hardening Quirk was boring, but with the right application and enough willpower, it can make Eijiro a powerful student hero after all. As a young boy, Eijiro accidentally cut his brow with his Quirk-hardened knuckles, giving him a short scar and fueling his intense dislike of his Quirk. Eijiro glowed up with this Quirk when he went Plus Ultra during his fight with Fat Gum against two members of the Eight Bullets, learning from Fat Gum's example of stubborn durability in combat.

Tsuyu Asui/Froppy

My Hero Academia: A Guide to All the Best Quirks in the Series (13)

✕ Remove Ads

Tsuyu Asui has the Frog Quirk, one of several animalistic Quirks in the series. It gives her many frog-themed abilities, such as a long, sticky tongue, strong leaping power with her legs, and the ability to bring up her stomach and store items inside. However, she is also vulnerable to cold environments, like a real amphibian, which Saiko Intelli exploited in the Provisional Hero License Exam arc.

Tenya Iida/Ingenium

My Hero Academia: A Guide to All the Best Quirks in the Series (14)

Like his older brother Tensei, Tenya Iida has the Engine Quirk, manifesting as exhaust vents in his calves. Engine allows Tenya to run with explosive speed, like the Flash, and deliver powerful kicks. He later tore out the vents and allowed new ones to grow in, giving him access to the powerful Recipro Turbo move to replace his original Recipro Burst.

Toru Hagakure/Invisible Girl

My Hero Academia: A Guide to All the Best Quirks in the Series (15)

Toru Hagakure's Invisibility Quirk makes her entire body invisible, as per the name, but that's not all. This Quirk controls light, and after training, Toru learned to refract light with her body, taking advantage of how all light can pass right through her. She can even combo her Quirk with Yuga Aoyama's Navel Laser to fire its energy beam in unexpected directions.\

Itsuka Kendo/Battle Fist

My Hero Academia: A Guide to All the Best Quirks in the Series (16)

✕ Remove Ads

Itsuka Kendo's Big Fist Quirk may be an expression of author Kohei Horikoshi's love of drawing hands, since this Quirk makes Itsuka's hands bigger, stronger, and more prominent. Those giant hands allow Itsuka to not just punch with extreme force, but also grab and restrain her enemies, or even fan away hazardous gases, such as when she fought the villain Mustard alongside Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu.

Neito Monoma/Phantom Thief

My Hero Academia: A Guide to All the Best Quirks in the Series (17)

Neito Monoma's Copy Quirk can mimic the function of other Quirks for five minutes, though there are some limits. Neito must touch someone with one or both hands to copy their Quirk, and he can only hold four copied Quirks at once, and cannot use two or more copied Quirks at the exact same time. Also, while Neito can copy Quirks that require special energy or materials, such as One For All, those Quirks won't function in Neito's hands. That's why he could copy Eri's Rewind Quirk but couldn't use it.

Pony Tsunotori/Rocketti

My Hero Academia: A Guide to All the Best Quirks in the Series (18)

Pony Tsunotori is an American student studying at UA. She has a horse-themed Quirk called Horn Cannon, manifesting as horse-like legs with hooves and two curved horns on her head. Pony can run on all fours at great speed, but her horns are the main feature of her Horn Cannon Quirk. Pony can detach those horns and control them via telekinesis, such as throwing them at the enemy with great speed or standing on them as they hover.

Manga Fukidashi/Comicman

My Hero Academia: A Guide to All the Best Quirks in the Series (19)

✕ Remove Ads

Manga Fukidashi's first name alludes to the fact that he has a manga/comic themed Quirk named Comic. His head always looks like a speech or thought bubble, which he uses expressively. In combat, Manga is all about onomatopoeia, where he can speak a word and make huge letters of that word appear and apply the effect of that spoken sound effect. Those effects often appear as katakana.

Juzo Honenuki/Mudman

My Hero Academia: A Guide to All the Best Quirks in the Series (20)

Juzo Honenuki's Quirk, Softening, is one of many My Hero Academia Quirks that relies on touching something with his hands to alter its state. Juzo's Softening Quirk will turn non-living things soft and squishy, which he used to great effect against Shoto Todoroki's ice arrays, making it difficult for Tenya Iida to run. Juzo can undo the softening effect with another touch. He has also been seen swimming through softened material, giving him an advantage against foes who are sinking helplessly into the soft ground.

What Quirks Do the Pro Heroes Have?

Toshinori Yagi/All Might

My Hero Academia: A Guide to All the Best Quirks in the Series (21)

The symbol of peace, All Might, was actually born Quirkless, just like his protégé Izuku Midoriya/Deku. That made All Might an ideal vessel for One For All, since One For All tends to clash with a wielder's natural Quirk factor and strain their body, but a Quirkless person like All Might doesn't have that issue. Hence, All Might could safely use One For All for 40 years, far longer than the first seven wielders.

Shota Aizawa/Eraser Head

My Hero Academia: A Guide to All the Best Quirks in the Series (22)

✕ Remove Ads

Deku's tsundere homeroom teacher, Shota Aizawa/Eraser Head, wields the Erasure Quirk. So long as Aizawa looks at someone without blinking, he can completely nullify their Quirk, mutation-types exempted. That makes it easy for Aizawa to restrain villains who would otherwise be too strong for him. Aizawa carries around special goggles and eye droppers to safely keep his eyes open longer, though recent injuries have limited his use of Erasure, unfortunately.

Yu Takeyama/Mt. Lady

My Hero Academia: A Guide to All the Best Quirks in the Series (23)

✕ Remove Ads

Mt. Lady's Gigantification Quirk was one of the first Quirks ever seen in use in My Hero Academia. This Quirk turns Mt. Lady into a giant who can effortlessly capture and restrain criminals while shrugging off physical attacks, though Gigantification's effects are surprisingly limited. When Mt. Lady uses it, she can only expand to one particular size, at 67 feet and 8 inches, and nothing in between. In effect, Mt. Lady has two rigidly-defined modes: her natural size, and her giant size.

Enji Todoroki/Endeavor

My Hero Academia: A Guide to All the Best Quirks in the Series (24)

Shoto's father, Endreavor, made aggressive use of his Hellflame Quirk to become the #2 pro hero and stay in that position for many years. Hellflame makes Endeavor completely immune to other flames or fire-based effects, and he can fly around with flames on his feet like rocket boosters. On offense, Endeavor's Quirk enables many close-range and long-range techniques alike, such as Flashfire Fist and Prominence Burn. However, Hellflame's intense heat is liable to strain Endeavor's body, giving him an upper limit. That prompted Endeavor to marry a woman with an ice Quirk so their ideal child would balance their heat and fire halves, hence Shoto's birth.

Keigo Takami/Hawks

My Hero Academia: A Guide to All the Best Quirks in the Series (25)

Hawks, the new #2 hero, is evidently inspired by Angel in X-Men comics, but uses his wings in unique ways compared to his comic counterpart. Hawks' wings don't just enable high-speed flight and hovering – he can telekinetically control his Fierce Wings Quirk's feathers to lift or move people, often many at a time. Hawks' feathers also have sharp edges and can be used like knives and swords, which is how Hawks personally finished off Twice the villain. However, as Dabi/Toya Todoroki soon realized, Hawks' feathers are highly vulnerable to fire, and now Hawks' Quirk is a shadow of its former self.

Sekijiro Kan/Vlad King

My Hero Academia: A Guide to All the Best Quirks in the Series (26)

Class 1-B's homeroom teacher, Vlad King, has one the series' blood-based Quirks, simply called Blood Control. With this Quirk, Vlad King can move all his blood out of his body and manipulate it, such as to trap his enemies and restrain them. His blood functions normally even in open air, such as delivering oxygen to his cells, so Vlad doesn't suffer any ill effects of blood loss. Notably, while some villains are ostracized due to their blood-based Quirks, Vlad King faces no such stigma.

What Quirks Do the Villains Have?

All For One

My Hero Academia: A Guide to All the Best Quirks in the Series (27)

✕ Remove Ads

The supervillain known only as All For One has a powerful Quirk of the same name. The All For One Quirk is like a meta-Quirk, since its sole function is to transfer Quirks between people, including its wielder. In theory, this could help many people gain or lose Quirks as desired, but the villainous All For One tends to use his ability for outright theft. He has amassed many stolen Quirks with his own Quirk, and he nearly defeated All Might twice with it. Most significantly, the All For One Quirk accidentally helped create One For All, with the character All For One granting his brother Yoichi a power-storing Quirk, which combined with Yoichi's own share-based Quirk to create something new and unique. One For All is the only Quirk in the world that the All For One Quirk cannot steal.

Tomura Shigaraki

My Hero Academia: A Guide to All the Best Quirks in the Series (28)

Tomura Shigaraki was born with the Decay Quirk, and that deadly Quirk is what set him on the path of villainy. As a young boy, Tenko Shimura accidentally used Decay on his entire family, which broke his mind and made him susceptible to All For One's manipulation as a twisted shonen mentor. Now going by the name Tomura Shigaraki, this character uses his Decay Quirk to destroy his enemies with a single touch, and after awakening his Decay Quirk, Tomura can wipe out nearly anything around him without having to touch everything first.

Himiko Toga

My Hero Academia: A Guide to All the Best Quirks in the Series (29)

✕ Remove Ads

The villain Himiko Toga, like her ally Tomura Shigaraki, had a rough childhood because of her Quirk. Transform is a blood-based Quirk, which led to Himiko's fascination with blood and thus her ostracization as a "freak." As a teenaged villain, Himiko can properly control her Quirk and even has a villain costume to enhance it. After drinking someone's blood, Himiko can use Transform to mimic that person's appearance and voice, and even their clothes. However, Himiko's own clothes don't come off with this effect, so she tends to use Transform in the nude for convenience. More recently, Himiko awakened her Transform Quirk, allowing her to copy a subject's Quirk as well as their appearance.

Kai Chisaki/Overhaul

My Hero Academia: A Guide to All the Best Quirks in the Series (30)

✕ Remove Ads

Kai Chisaki wields an incredible Quirk called Overhaul, and gave himself the same villain name. Overhaul is like alchemy in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, with Overhaul using it to rearrange matter with a simple touch to either reshape, create, or destroy things – organic or not. He even used his Overhaul Quirk to fuse his body with other people and become a giant monster, but Deku, with Eri's Rewind Quirk aiding him, overcame this massive power. Overhaul's Quirk factor is in his arms, meaning Tomura Shigaraki effectively destroyed the Overhaul Quirk by rotting away both of Overhaul's arms.

Jin Bubaigawara/Twice

My Hero Academia: A Guide to All the Best Quirks in the Series (31)

✕ Remove Ads

Twice is one of several villains who suffered in civilian life because of his Quirk. His Double Quirk allows him to create duplicates of himself and other people, but Twice's usage of Double puts mental strain on him because he's not sure who the "real" Jin Bubaigawara is. He found comfort in the League of Villains, and can now put Double to good use. With it, Twice can send disposable clones to scout the area or confuse his enemies, and a large group of Twices can overwhelm a pro hero with sheer force. In one of Twice's final battles, he used the Sad Man's Parade move, where his clones can make their own clones, creating thousands of Twices.
